About Kaya
Kaya Bucholc ('kaɪ.ʌ 'bu.hɒlts ) is a London (UK) based actor from Toronto (Canada), with her BFA(Honours) in Acting from York University (2014) and a Masters Degree in Classical Acting from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) (2018).
Kaya's love for Shakespeare first began with The Upper Canada Repertory Company, whom she performed with from the age of 13-19. During her high school years she attended Etobicoke School of the Arts, as a Drama Major, afterwhich she spent a breif two years at the University of Guelph as a Theatre Major and Mathematics Minor. Realising she wanted more in-depth professional acting training, she transferred to York University to train as part of their rigorous Acting Conservatory program, graduating in 2014 with her BFA(Honours).
After graduating Kaya lived and worked as an actor in Toronto, performing in mostly theatre including productions of: The Gut Girls, Antigone, and Romeo and Juliet. In 2017 she decided to get a second acting degree and moved to the UK to begin her Masters degree in classical acting at LAMDA. Post graduation she decided to stay in the UK and continues to live and work in London, England.
In October 2019 Kaya performed in The House of Yes at the Hope Theatre in London, which received many 5 star reviews and won the London Pub Theatre’s Standing Ovation Award for “Outstanding Theatricality.” Beginning during the 2020 summer lockdown and continuing until the end of COVID in 2023, Kaya took part in Will&Co.’s production of Bard in the Yard (King Leonardo) and Bard in the Yard (The Scottish Play); two separate hour-long solo Shakespeare shows playing in people’s private gardens as socially distanced summer theatre, and then later, in theatres, offices, gardens and town halls all across England (2020-2023).
Her career as a writer begin in 2019, and currently has several pieces of writing for theatre in development. She has written and co-starred in the micro-short Never Been Ghosted, which was released in July 2022, and co-wrote, co-produced, and co-starred in The Weïrd Sisters (2024), which shall be premiering soon . Kaya also wrote and performed in Mary’s Daughters, a play about Mary Wollstonecraft, that had its world premiere production at The Space Theatre in March 2024.
In 2024 Kaya joined BiLLO Studio, a film and theatre production company, as the Associate Director of Art and Operation.
Kaya also has a great love for 19th century English literature, logic puzzles, trivia, and nature. She continues to live and work in London.
